Counter-Strike Creator’s Next Big Thing

By: Fraggle

According to Steam's stats, more people played Counter-Strike (1.6 and Source) in February than Skyrim, Team Fortress 2, and Dota 2 combined. So when Min "Gooseman" Le, one of the co-creators of the original Counter-Strike mod that launched the phenomenon, gets ready to kick off his new game, it's kind of a big deal. That game is Tactical Intervention, a free-to-play shooter that looks very much like an expanded Counter-Strike, complete with driveable vehicles, rappelling, attack dogs, and presumably all manner of new tactical toys, and it will enter closed beta in America in March.

Valve Quiz Awards Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Beta Keys

By: Gold and Silver Guns

Valve has revealed via the official Counter-Strikeblog that its next wave of community beta keys for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be doled out according to the results of a new survey. According to the site, "if you don't fill out, you won't be getting a key."

While the questions test players' knowledge of the series, Valve explains that there are "no wrong answers." Over the coming months, it will be awarding keys from completed surveys, but not necessarily to those who did "best."
"Sometimes we might add experienced players, other times new players," the blog explains. "Sometimes 1.6 players, sometimes CSS players, sometimes people who have played neither."

Basically, if you don't know something, don't bother Googling it. It seems you have the same chance, be you CSchamp or chump.

The first selections begin sometime next week, so if you're interested, you should fill one of these applications out soon. Players able to join the beta will also be given gift keys to share with friends, earned by completing CS:GO quick matches.

New Release: SSX

By: John D. Rockefeller

I don't know if you have ever played SSX, but that is one damn fun game! Way back in October of 2000, 12 years ago, the first SSX, or Snowboard Super Cross, came out and I fell in love with that game. This was one of my favorite games on the PS2, and I never truly owned it. I had a “PlayStation Underground” CD that had SSX on it, and I played it for a good 4 months straight.

Now to get into the game; SSX is a racing game on snowboards; and yes, it was that simple. Flying down a snow-laden mountain with “It's Tricky” (Run DMC) blaring in the background was one of my greatest childhood memories. Although, it wasn't all racing, there was an impressive list of tricks that kept it interesting. Have you ever done a 1080 back flip over a half pipe and land on an unseen tree? I have.

And now for the point of this article, why am I mentioning SSX when it was released 12 years ago? Very simple, a brand new one just came out. SSX 2012 released Feb. 28, in NA, has surely caught my eye, and maybe yours. I can't wait to grab the game, buckle up in some snow gear, crank Run DMC, and fly down a mountain in the most over-the-top way possible!

And for those of you who have NO IDEA of what I'm talking about, here is a quick video by Rooster Teeth that shows off this new game…

GameStop opening Deus Ex boxes, removing free game code

So as many of you are well aware Deus Ex Human Revolution came out Tuesday and it turns out Gamestop is back to their old devious ways. The boxed PC version of the game had a code for OnLive in it that you could get the game for free from that service as well as your hardcopy. Gamestop employees were asked to open the NEW copies of this game and remove the coupon from the box. Image below:

GameStop spokesperson Beth Sharum confirmed the practice, saying that "Square Enix packed the competitor’s coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull these coupons."

Gamestop further made this comment on facebook that was first removed due to the amount of negative comments and then reposted again: "Regarding the Deus Ex OnLive Codes: GameStop’s policy is that we do not promote competitive services without a formal partnership. Square Enix packed a competitor’s coupon within the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution without our prior knowledge and we did pull these coupons. While the new products may be opened, we fully guarantee the condition of the discs to be new. If you find this to not be the case, please contact the store where the game was purchased and they will further assist."

Turns out that Gamestop may be liable tampering with a product from the US article

§ 1365. Tampering with consumer products

(b) Whoever, with intent to cause serious injury to the business of any person, taints any consumer product or renders materially false or misleading the labeling of, or container for, a consumer product, if such consumer product affects interstate or foreign commerce, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

So obviously you'll hear of something regarding to either a law suit from Squarenix or OnLive on this matter or at the very least even some legal action against Gamestop itself. Stay classy Gamestop

CounterStrike: Global Offensive

By: DJ Mark Of Death

Creaming for a new CounterStrike?  Global Offensive Confirmed for 2012.

Chatter in the ClanFnG CounterStrike servers yesterday indicated that CounterStrike Global Offensive is a go.  Sure enough, the next level in this hugely popular multiplayer game is due to be released in 2012.  It is still unconfirmed as to the release of the Beta (supposedly September/October 2011, but meh, I can only hope to get on THAT list).

After reading some of the news and reports, I truly feel that it's not going to be anything more than an upgrade in graphics with some gun/equipment additions and tweaks, as I have been hearing and reading that Global Offensive will NOT be introducing any new modes of gameplay, but will be but we will have to just wait and see.

CounterStrike IS a classic and I am sure it is hard to please the masses.   However, at this point, ANYTHING new for CounterStrike will bring new blood and an additional 2000 hours played on my Steam account.  Read a pretty good story from ESEA News HERE!
